ClimateThe Gulf Coastal Plains region is the wettest of the four regions. It gets the most rainfall, but just like all the other regions, it is still prone to drought. The summers here are hot and humid with lots of rain. The winters are mild with some cold and little rain. During the summer this region is a hot spot for hurricanes. The Gulf Coastal Plains region gets hit by plenty of hurricanes. On average about per year hit this region.

VegetationThe Gulf Coastal Plains is mostly praire along the Gulf Coast. But in other parts of the region, sprawling feilds of colorful wildflowers are a common sight. This region is famous for its vast feilds of the state flower; bluebonnets. People come from near and far to take pictures in these beautiful flowers. In other parts of this region, the short grass of the plains makes it perfect for ranchers to graze their cattle.

LandformsThe Gulf Coastal Plains region has many different landforms. Probably, the most famous-the one the region was named for-is the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf Coast and the islands in the gulf make up most of the Gulf Coastal Plains. One of the most well known of these islands is Galveston Island.

OpportunitiesThe three largest industries in the Gulf Coastal Plains region are: oil, fishing, and ranching. The short grass of the praire along the gulf coast makes it perfect for cattle grazing. The Gulf of Mexico is full of fish. This makes fishing a very common job and passtime. The Gulf Coastal Plains region is rich with oil, so people can also get a job drilling for it.

Gulf of Mexico, the Guadalupe River, the Red River on the Texas Oklahoma border, the Sabine River on the Texas Louisiana border and the Rio Grande on the Texas Mexico border. Some non-water resources include the short grass of the praire, the oil that people come from all over the country to drill for, and the fish provided by the Gulf and the rivers. |
